Depart from your own destination arriving is Islamabad the next day and transfer to the hotel for a few hours` sleep. After an early breakfast we return to the airport for the flight to skardu which usually departs mid-morning given good weather this is perhaps the most spectacular commercial flight in the world, with magnificent view of Nanga Parbat the nine highest mountain in the world.
Early morning flight to Skardu - Acclimatization day in Skardu - Explore local markets and surroundings - Overnight stay in Skardu. NOTE: In case of cancellation of flight (13-14 hrs) drive by coach to Chilas (480 km) on Karakorum highway or drive to Chilas via the Babusar pass at an elevation of 41.73 m (13,691 ft) above the sea level.
Full day for official formalities and final preparation of Trek at Skardu.
After breakfast, we drive in jeeps along the Indus and Shyok valleys before turning northwards up the Hushe valley to reaching the road head at the little Village of Hushe.
Trek to Shaicho. We will leave the last inhabited village of Hushe. A short trek of about 3-4 hours takes us to the idyllic campsite at Shaicho. This camp lies at the junction of the Charakusa and Gondogoro valleys and is situated on a sandy, tree-shaded area beside a swift-flowing river.
Trek to Dalsanpa. We take a path on a wooded moraine ridge, which climbs steeply to the seasonal goat herder's settlement at Golong. We stop for lunch here before dropping onto the glacier to scramble along its edge to bypass a steep rock section. A final scramble up a rocky gulley leads to the spectacular campsite at Dalsanpa.
Trek to Khuispang. We have great views up-valley to the Gondogoro La and to Gondogoro Peak. We head out into the glacier centre, walking between ice pinnacles and easily avoiding any crevassed areas. We pass beneath the striking spire of Laila Peak (6096m) and amongst a stunning array of mountain scenery.
Khuispang is a spectacular place at the heart of the Karakoram. The views of Laila Peak are breathtaking and the huge bulk of Trinity Peak is right across the glacier from camp. This is a day for rest and acclimatization.
Trek down to Saicho, following the Gondogoro Glacier. Navigate rocky moraines and glacier sections. Camp at Saicho (4300m) for a well-deserved rest.
Trek towards the picturesque Hushe Valley. Descend through rocky terrain and meadows. Reach Hushe Valley and experience local culture. Camp in Hushe for the night.
Helpful answers
The ideal time for climbing Laila Peak is from June to September, when weather conditions in the Karakoram are relatively stable. July and August are considered the peak climbing months, offering longer daylight hours and better visibility.
The climb to Laila Peak requires solid mountaineering experience as the route involves steep ice and rock faces. This is not suitable for beginners and requires proper acclimatization and technical climbing skills.
In case of flight cancellation, there will be a 13-14 hours drive by coach to Chilas (480 km) on Karakorum highway, followed by a complete road journey (10-11 hrs) from Chilas to Skardu (275 km).
