Itinerary
Touch down in Pakistan's capital. Your guide meets you at the airport, transfers you to your hotel and gives you the evening to settle in. Overnight stay in Islamabad.
Drive northwest through the scenic valleys of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with stops along the way as the landscape opens into sweeping forested ridges. Arrive in Dir by evening and check in to hotel. Overnight stay in Dir.
Depart from Ayun by 4x4 jeep into the narrow valleys of Kalash — one of the most remote and culturally unique communities in the world. The jeep track winds through dramatic cliffs and pine forest before opening into the valley. Arrive by evening and check in. Overnight stay in Kalash.
A full day to immerse yourself in the Kalash way of life. Explore Bumburet Valley and the surrounding villages, observe the distinctive wooden houses, colorful dress and ancient traditions of the Kalash people — a pre-Islamic community with roots stretching back thousands of years. Overnight stay in Kalash.
Travel to Chitral, the historic capital of the former princely state. Visit the grand Shahi Masjid, the famous polo ground where one of the world's oldest polo tournaments is held, the Chitral Museum and the imposing Chitral Fort. Overnight stay in Chitral.
A full day excursion by 4x4 jeep into Gol National Park, a dense forest reserve in the Hindu Kush famous for its Chiltan markhor — a rare wild goat and the national animal of Pakistan. The forest is stunning at any time of year. Return to Chitral by evening. Overnight stay in Chitral.
A full day excursion into Upper Chitral, ending at Qaqlasht Meadows — a vast high-altitude plateau with sweeping views of the Hindu Kush range on one side and the Chitral Valley far below on the other. One of the most underrated viewpoints in northern Pakistan. Overnight stay in Chitral.
Begin the long return journey south with scenic stopovers through the valleys of KPK. Arrive in Islamabad by evening. Overnight stay in Islamabad.
Leave the capital and head south towards Lahore with two exceptional stops along the way. Katas Raj Temples is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site dating back over 2,000 years, built around a sacred lake believed to have formed from the tears of Lord Shiva. Khewra Salt Mine is the world's second largest salt mine, its pink-lit chambers and salt crystal formations making it one of Pakistan's most surreal underground experiences. Arrive in Lahore and overnight stay.
Begin with the magnificent Shalimar Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1641 — three terraced garden levels of fountains, pavilions and marble channels. Explore Emporium Mall and Lahore's modern face in the afternoon if time permits. Overnight stay in Lahore.
